Leave the busy day-to-day behind and connect back to the peace of the natural world at our secluded woodland site near the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge. Wander in the wilds to discover a wide range of plants and mushrooms that can be used to make tasty and nutritious foods as well as potent medicines.
A big part of what excites us about foraging is tapping back into ancestral wisdom. As well as plant and fungi identification, we’ll introduce you to core bushcraft skills including an ancient fire lighting technique.
The course covers an introduction to the practice of foraging and its core principles, methods of preparation and cooking, folklore & history, and the nutritional & medicinal benefits of the plants and fungi we find.
You will be offered tasty wild samples along the way, from traditional preparations such as cordials, vinegars, fruit leathers & tonics to our more modern creations such as forager’s chocolate and hedgerow ketchup. The day also includes a cook up over the campfire.

Sophie and Leonie were exceptionally knowledgeable and keen to take every member of the group along, whatever their background or knowledge base. Their enthusiasm for foraging and the natural world was palpable. Particular highlights included being tasked with cooking the Scarlet Elf Cups and the tasting of nettle beer!Posted on Chloe DaltonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was instantly hooked after joining Live Wild’s autumn forage day course last year. I later signed up for their year-long course, The Forager’s Journey, as I wanted to dive deeper into the wisdom of the land. I also love the way the course guides you through the seasons, helping you understand how beautifully the ecosystem works throughout the year. This year I’ve learnt so much and truly deepened my relationship with nature. Not only have I gained knowledge, but I’ve also found friendship in a wonderful group of people. We cooked over the fire like a little tribe, using the seasonal foods we’d foraged, and shared the most amazing meals together. We’d sing songs and read poems by the flames, and the campouts were the cosiest and full of lovely memories. The course has changed me in so many ways. I’m far more confident in identifying mushrooms now, and I can’t wait to start foraging again come springtime! Leonie and Sophie are both incredibly talented, caring, and full of wisdom and experience.Load more

Live Wild’s Leonie Morris – Leonie is co-founder and director of Live Wild and works with people of all ages to help them rediscover the ‘wild nature’ both inside and outside of us. She is a qualified Bushcraft Instructor & Wild Food Teacher, with many years experience teaching a range of programmes including regular seasonal foraging courses across the north of England and our long-term Forager’s Journey programme. She is also a proud member of the Association of Foragers. Leonie facilitates our Questing With Fire rite of passage programme, and various nature-connection programmes for children. She is happiest when sharing foraging wisdom in a holistic context: using all of the senses, gathering respectfully and playfully with homemade baskets, building a fire to cook up finds – she is a strong believer that all food tastes best cooked together over a fire!
Live Wild’s Sophie Wren –Sophie’s foraging journey began during her years living on the inland waterways where, mooring up in different locations, she became fascinated by the plants, trees and fungi that surrounded her. Foraging fit very well with an off-grid way of living, and soon she was hooked! The unexpected gift was a depth of connection to the wild world that has been life changing. It wasn’t long before fungi became a fascination, and Sophie studied mycology with the Field Studies Council as well as soaking up wisdom from various mentors and elders in the foraging community. She teaches regular seasonal foraging courses and fungi identification walks with Live Wild in West Yorkshire, and in various locations across Northumberland. She also co-facilitates Live Wild’s Forager’s Journey programme alongside Leonie and is a proud member of the Association of Foragers.
